It is made from Pinus Radiata softwood (New Zealand Pine), and is treated by pressure and organic materials to produce a strong, dense, hard and uniform timber that is ideal for instrument fretboards. It performs as well as rosewood or ebony, but is FSC certified, made from sustainably sourced renewable plantation grown timber - even the materials used in the special treatment  are derived from pine sawdust.
