3 string cigar box guitar, tuned in open G ...fretted neck with "precision" pickup..together with one of my license plate stompboxes...just showing what it will do and a few pointers to playing.... slide, fingerstyle, chords, harmonies etc
Oil
can guitar - single "Tele"-style pickup, capable of a wide range of
sounds from mellow to rockin'. I originally started down this route by
buying a couple of the "Afri-Can" guitars from Capetown, South Africa.
They are really nicely made instruments, with aluminium.blackwood
necks, but they are rather expensive, and I found the pickups very
weak. I sold them on, but had a hankering again for one, so started
making my own, and must say, I'm pleased with the results.
Demonstrating a few of my guitars at the Bacup Guitar Fair (one of Mojo Guitar Fair's events)...first off a diddley bow, then a Torano Deep Tone fretless, a RedBox electric in open G..and finishing with the Redbox..all accompanied by one of my little black boxes, the MiniMoJoBox footstomper.
Here's me playing a low-tone 3 string fretless CBG. It's set-up so you can play with slide and fingers, which gives it a nice nasal string bass sound, with hints of the arab oud (a sort of fretless lute). Passive piezo pickup, clean channel on my Sessionette amp, with a touch or reverb. The playing is based on Blind Willie Johnson's classic haunting slide piece "Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground.
Another Blind Willie Johnson number, this time with the aid of one string and some electronic talent enhancement.
Pretty typical of my 3 string fretless builds, strat style pickup and blasted thru' my old Sessionette amp.
A little bit of fun, trying to do Santo and Johnny's classic "Sleepwalk". The guitar is tuned in a cut-down D6 tuning.
